Herbal Remedies: Breast Hurt
Any change in your breast, either in appearance, feeling or skin texture should be cause for concern - not cause for panic certainly but neither should it be overlooked. Nancy was right to insist that her doctor send her for a mammogram. The lump in my breast was only painless once it was large enough to be stage III. This may be the first time you read this, but pain can definitely be a symptom of breast cancer, take it from someone with first-hand knowledge.
Does Breast Hurt?
A pain in the breast will cause most women a lot of anxiety over breast cancer, and with good reason. Breast cancer is the sixth-leading cause of all deaths for women in the United States. And only lung cancer causes more cancer deaths in women. In 2007, 178,480 women were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, and 40,460 women died of the disease.
But the fact of the matter is that breast cancer normally does not cause any pain. There usually aren't any breast cancer symptoms that would call attention to a tumor, particularly early on. But women with early breast cancer might find:
- A lump in the breast or armpit that doesn't hurt but is hard and has uneven edges.
- A change in the appearance or feel of a breast or nipple, including such occurrences as redness, dimpling, or puckering.
- A discharge of fluid from the nipple that could be either bloody or pus-like.
Medical experts believe the reason early breast cancer doesn't hurt is because "it grows so slowly and insidiously without disturbing the nerve fibers," Dr. Russell says. Advanced breast cancer symptoms include skin ulcers, swelling in the arm nearest the cancerous breast, and weight loss.
